Learning music open doors in the mind and enhances our mind/body connection. I teach by studying each student, learning the desires, strengths and interest of each. I carefully observes what works with each and tailor my approach accordingly. I have students of all levels and ages. Although I am a trained classical guitarist, I do use a number of different styles in my work.
I’ve taught private guitar lessons since I was in high school, now many years ago. I studied guitar performance and pedagogy with the great author and and innovator, Aaron Shearer. I still use some of Shearer’s books. More recently I worked with lutenist and hand specialist, Pat O’Brien. I am currently on the staff of CUNY, and the Caedmon School of Music. For many years I taught advanced and conservatory level students. Recently I have specialized in younger students from age 4 and up. In the past I taught at the Saint Louis Conservatory; the Conservatory of Music of Brooklyn College; the National Summer Guitar Workshop; and the Interlochen Center for the Arts in Michigan. My students have been accepted at institutions of higher learning including the Peabody Conservatory, Yale University, and the Manhattan School of Music. Equally important many of the students who started with me when they were very young are still active and successful guitarists.
